Once Upon a Timeless opens in Houston, TX, Friday, April 22 at the Unix Gallery
Ingrid has reached into the creative unknown to produce her most exciting work to date. It has always been her goal to paint the human spirit in her work, to capture that spark or essence that is the nobility in each of us. Using three related techniques in this unusual exhibition, Ingrid brushes the beauty within each of us. Though it is difficult to capture the true depth and dimensionality of her work in photographs, here for your viewing pleasure are a few samples of the masterpieces you will see at the exhibition.
Ingrid continues to create her most well-known work, consisting of transparent layers, antique objects and butterflies. Stunningly beautiful images that touch the divine in each of us.
Never content to stand still, Ingrid experiments with new materials in this recent series of dimensional work. The objects literally jump from the surface.
Abstraction has always been a critical part of Ingrid’s work, sometime layered deep within her figurative work, or gently applied to the transparent surfaces. Her show in Houston will be the first time these paintings will be shown as separate and unique work.

Texas Welcomes Ingrid’s Work With Great Enthusiasm
Sometimes you have to leave to come home…
Ingrid was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She left as a young adult to pursue life in Europe, New York and later Aspen. But Texas never forgot her.. or her talent. In October of last year, well known Houston art lover and philanthropist, Carolyn Farb, commissioned Ingrid to do an altar for her home. Creating a commissioned work of art is certainly a challenge, but an altar is so personal and spiritual, it brought the experience to lofty heights.
Ingrid worked on the piece for over six months and the results are nothing less than stunning. The journey not only produced a spectacular work of art, but also a deep artistic connection between the two women. The altar was installed in mid-April and Carolyn and Ingrid met each other for first time in person, but also as long time kindred spirits.

On April 15th, Carolyn Farb generously opened her home to honor the new installation. Friends and art lovers from Aspen, Houston and New York City came to the event to share her enthusiasm. Enjoy the photos from the event.

An Artwork’s Journey Home – From Aspen to Houston to Aspen
The Artist Dreams is an unusual piece in many ways. First it is by artist, Ingrid Dee Magidson, which by definition makes it unique. But even within that broad category of the different, The Artist Dreams pushes new boundaries.
About two years ago, Ingrid’s son found the remains of a deer near their home. A mountain lion had killed the poor creature, and other animals had eaten what it had left behind. When Ingrid’s son found it, only part of the spine remained. Knowing how his mother likes certain objects, he brought it home. Ingrid cleaned and preserved the bones and put it aside for just the right piece.
A year later, the right piece was ready for the spine – The Artist Dreams. It is a surrealist work representing the illusory nature of time, how living things are at once so fragile and strong; living only a few years, but leaving behind bones that could last centuries, millennia or even eons. The work is also unique in that it incorporates mirrors on both sides of the spine. The viewer is able to see the front and sides of the spine simultaneously. It was a technically difficult piece that came out spectacularly.
The Artist Dreams was debuted at the Aspen Art Fair in August 2013. The Unix Gallery out of New York City exhibited this and other of Ingrid’s work. There were several interested collectors, but the piece did not sell until it was exhibited in Houston later that month. Well known art collector and philanthropist, Dr. Carolyn Farb saw the work and immediately fell in love with it. She purchased it and hung it prominently in her Houston home. She compares it to work by one of her other favorite artists: Frida Kahlo.
And we come full circle to the 2014 Aspen Art Fair, which opens July 31st at the Ice Gardens in Aspen. Unix Gallery will once again be showing Ingrid’s newest work. Work that is unique, challenging and always beautiful.
