Dallas Museum of Biblical Art Exhibition

Ingrid’s work will be featured along with 5 other artists at a special exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Biblical Art opening October 18, 2018.  This exhibition will highlight 7 of her most iconic layered works spanning 8 years.  Each piece is a jewel and several have been pulled from Ingrid’s private collection.

I was honored when asked to participate in this exhibition.  I wanted them to have my best, so I borrowed several pieces from Galerie Zuger in Vail and filled in from my personal collection, special pieces that I have held for years for their special meaning to me.

The work to your left, titled Predestiny is one of the works featured in the exhibition.  It is about how we come to this life with a destiny.  The central figure is revealing our destiny.  In the lower portion are two dolls representing two lives.  The one on the left is the fighter or warrior, doing what’s right, changing the world.  And the doll on the right represents the harmonious life, the mother, the nurturer.  In the center of the piece is a clock, representing time; that on one hand there is a limit to how long we have, but on the other hand that it’s never too late to choose a different path.

The Dallas Museum of Biblical Art is best known for its rare religious works, but regularly exhibits contemporary artists with a spiritual element.  They have expanded their venue with the belief that art, by its nature, is a spiritual endeavor.  They were first introduced to Ingrid’s work in 2014, clearly impressed and have been in active communication until they were able to host this current exhibition.

There will be two private receptions with the artist in attendance:

Private Reception: Thursday, October 18, 5-8pm
Private Reception: Friday, October 19, 2-7pm

If you’d like to attend one the private receptions, you will need to RSVP by October 10, 2018 to Galerie Zuger Vail, either by email: art@galeriezugervail.com or by phone: 970-476-5619

Public Viewing begins on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 10 to 3pm

Beyond the Bounds of Reality – Abstraction

Ingrid’s work at her upcoming show in Vail will mostly feature her newest abstract work.  It may seem like a departure, but it is actually the work within the work that is being exposed.  Each layered piece begins with an abstract painting; the figurative construction grows from that point outwards.

Recently, she set one of the abstract works aside and carefully considered it, lived with it.  It was too good to hide, so she decided to keep it that way and start again with another background.  Before long, Ingrid had several abstract works.  Though they are very different from the layered works, they are also very similar in mood and composition.  Complex and hauntingly beautiful, they are a natural expression to her artistic style.

The exhibition in Vail will present her newest works, both abstract and transparent layers.  To see them together is a rare opportunity and a fascinating look inside the artistic process.  It is well worth a visit.  The exhibition opens this Thursday, December 29th at Galerie Zuger, Vail.  Ingrid will be at the drop-in reception from 11 – 7.  Stop by if you are in the area, and Happy New Year.

Ingrid’s Newest Work, Ethereal Visions

Ingrid’s newest work will be featured at the Unix Gallery (booth 301) at Silicon Valley Contemporary from April 10 to 13.  This prestigious art event will be held at the impressive and recently remodeled San Jose McEnery Convention Center.  More than fifty galleries from ten different countries will be displaying their best work.  Of course, Ingrid’s work will be shown at such an important event.

Ingrid will be debuting several pieces, among them will be her most recent experimental work, Ethereal Visions.  In this unusual work, she has combined paint, an antique handbag, butterflies, interactive lights, and seven layers of imagery into a must see work of art.  To abuse a cliché, pictures don’t do it justice.

More information about the event dates, time and location is listed below.  You have to go to this one!

Book by Ingrid Dee Magidson, Madness of the Muses
Madness of the Muses

From the back cover:

Ingrid Dee Magidson’s art career began just over six years ago.  In that brief time, she has had 15 solo exhibitions (most of those sellout shows), a museum exhibition, her work included twice at the Hermitage Museum Foundation Gala in New York City, numerous magazine features and a loyal international group of art collectors which include: the Alpina Gstaad,  Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith and Jackie Bezos.  The Madness of the Muses is a richly illustrated look at the life and work of this rising art star.  Magidson’s unique style combines the poetic paintings of the Renaissance with contemporary and antique materials to form works of sublime beauty.  Each piece is imbued with a sense of spirit, as if time has stopped and we are looking at people long gone, but brought back to life in Magidson’s extraordinary work.  One collector describes his experience:

It is as if the artist has compressed 500 years into a single work of art.  These few fragile layers of antique objects, paint and butterflies are arranged in such a way that  I can see into the very depths of a stranger’s soul.  I begin to pull away, but I can’t stop looking.

Here are a few glimpses inside of the book:
